Source: Political Crisis in Pakistan Damages Army’s Camaraderie

After the arrest of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in Pakistan, the political crisis has boomed that its effects have reached the army.

A source in Pakistan confirmed the newly created differences in the army to Shamshad TV and added that the commanders of the Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa corps are loyal to retired army general Faiz Hamid and Faiz Hamid himself is a supporter of Imran Khan.

According to the source, the disagreement of these commanders with the Chief of Army Staff, Asim Munir is that the actions of the army in civil politics are not correct and the issue is making the situation more critical.

The source added that so far 2,500 soldiers, including 200 senior officers, have resigned due to existing differences in the army most of which are Sindhi and Pashtun.

The discussion on the creation of a gap in the Pakistani army is so heated that, in addition to the comments of Pakistani journalists and social media users, efforts are being made to abolish these differences from the addresses attributed to the army itself.

In an interview with a private television, the spokesperson of the army, Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry, called these differences sheer rumors and added that the leadership of the army is united.

With the continuation of political crisis, former Prime Minister Imran Khan requested his supporters in Islamabad to protest against injustice.

He requested to hold similar protests on May 17, 20223,  in other regions of Pakistan including Punjab.

While the Pakistan Army has appointed a committee to investigate the damage caused by the recent protests, Imran Khan has said that the damage is not caused by his supporters, but by other rival parties.

Khan added: “I demand an independent and comprehensive investigation into the burning of government buildings and the direct shooting of young protestors. I ask Judge Omar Ata Bandial to appoint a delegation under his leadership for the task.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has given 72 hours to the security forces to arrest those who caused harm during the protests.

Sharif added: “I have given 72 hours to the law enforcers to arrest all those who were involved in looting and burning of government and private assets or who encouraged people to do that.”

On the other hand, Jamiat Ulama-e-Islamic Party leader Fazal Rahman, who is also the leader of the alliance of partner parties in the coalition government of Pakistan, has asked his supporters to protest in front of Islamabad Supreme Court on Monday and made the court to reverse the decision made about the release of Imran Khan.
