From June 4 to 6, Uzbekistan will host the second Termez Dialogue in the city of Tashkent, focusing on strengthening connectivity between Central and South Asia.
Held under the theme “Peace, Connectivity and Prosperity: Building Foundations for Shared Development,” the forum will bring together more than 150 political, economic, and academic figures, as well as representatives of international and regional organizations.
The event aims to expand cooperation between Central and South Asia, strengthen transit corridors, and identify practical approaches for enhancing regional economic connectivity.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, participants will include representatives from political, business, and academic communities, along with officials from international and regional organizations. Attendees are expected from Central and South Asia, Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States region, the Middle East, and the United States.
The ministry stated that the broad participation reflects the Termez Dialogue’s role as an inclusive and open international platform designed to promote connectivity, mutual trust, and sustainable development across Asia.
Established in 2025 as a permanent international platform, the Termez Dialogue seeks to bring regional countries closer together through economic, transit, and trade cooperation.
Political analysts believe Afghanistan’s representatives should use the forum to emphasize the country’s central role in regional connectivity projects and advocate for greater cooperation in transit, trade, and infrastructure development.
According to analysts, projects linking Central and South Asia through Afghanistan are important not only for regional economic growth but also for positioning Afghanistan as a key economic corridor.
Political analyst Shahsawar Sangrowal said: “This initiative has significant value both for peace and for trade. Afghanistan’s importance lies in its central geographic position in the region, as North and South Asia can be connected most effectively through Afghanistan.”
Analyst Mohammad Ismail Zadran said: “The leaders of the Islamic Emirate should make constructive use of this opportunity. Those representing Afghanistan at the conference should provide convincing responses to regional and international participants. One of the most important issues remains international recognition.”
Analysts also stress that the Afghan delegation should prioritize discussions on railway development, energy transmission projects, trade facilitation, attracting investment, and accelerating regional economic initiatives.
Political analyst Toryalai Zazi commented: “These countries organize such meetings primarily in pursuit of their own interests. If such gatherings are truly intended to serve Afghanistan’s interests, then why are they not held in Afghanistan?”
According to available information, an Afghan delegation is expected to participate in the forum, although no official statement has yet been issued regarding the meeting.
The second Termez Dialogue comes at a time when countries across the region are seeking new avenues for economic cooperation and greater regional integration. Afghanistan is expected to present its vision for strengthening regional cooperation based on its strategic geographic location and economic potential.
