The Prison Affairs Authority says that in addition to other facilities, female inmates at Kabul’s women’s prison have access to specialized education programs, vocational courses, and opportunities to learn other skills.
A kindergarten has also been established within the prison for young children who stay with their mothers, providing them with proper care and activities.
The Director General of the Prison Affairs Authority, Mohammad Yousuf Mistri, stated:
“Some women in the prison have young children who cannot survive on their own. To keep these children engaged and healthy, we have provided literacy programs, a kindergarten, and recreational facilities within the prison.”
He added that besides living quarters and healthcare services, significant improvements have been made in maintaining a clean and safe environment within the women’s prison.
Mistri emphasized:
“Providing these facilities for children also positively affects their mothers’ well-being. When mothers see their children happy, life in prison becomes easier. Children receive timely healthcare and age-appropriate nutrition, including biscuits, milk, and other food items.”
The Prison Affairs Authority assured that rehabilitation and education programs will continue to expand across all prisons under its supervision, and that additional facilities and services will be provided to inmates.
