The Afghanistan national cricket team is scheduled to begin matches against India on June 6. The series will include one Test match and three One Day Internationals (ODIs).
India has now announced its squad for the series under the captaincy of Shubman Gill. However, star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been left out of the squad. Instead, fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna have been included.
Analysts consider the upcoming ODI and Test matches against India highly important and believe that the Afghan team will have a strong opportunity to prove itself as a competitive side.
Cricket analyst Abubakar Siddiq said: “The Afghan team will play one Test and three ODIs against India. India has announced its squads for both formats. The Afghan team has been training in Kabul and other provinces and is fully prepared. We expect strong performances from Afghanistan in these matches.”
Other analysts are also optimistic about Afghanistan’s spinners alongside its fast bowlers, saying the national team has the potential to perform well against India.
Cricket analyst Sadaam Shinwari said: “The Afghan team will play against India in June. We hope Afghanistan will win. Our national players are currently busy in List A matches in Nangarhar, and based on their form, we expect good results.”
The Afghanistan Cricket Board has not yet announced the national squad for the series, but it says it has started List A matches in Nangarhar alongside a training camp as part of preparations for the India series.
In previous encounters across Test, ODI, and T20 formats, Afghanistan has not yet recorded a win against India.
