Despite repeated assurances by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the situation in Afghanistan is still considered important for the region, particularly for the countries of Central Asia.
Recently, the Collective Security Treaty Organization emphasized the importance of monitoring the situation in Afghanistan for lasting regional peace and security during a meeting in Vienna with Feridun Sinirlioğlu, head of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
Reports on the matter stated that discussions were also held regarding the capabilities of the Afghanistan working group led by the foreign ministers of the CSTO member states.
The CSTO stated:
“The importance and impact of continuously monitoring Afghanistan were emphasized in order to ensure lasting security and peace in the region.”
Since returning to power, the Islamic Emirate has repeatedly assured regional and global countries that Afghan soil will not be used against any other nation. Despite this, the CSTO — whose members are mostly Central Asian countries — continues to express concerns from time to time.
Political analyst Aziz Maarij said:
“The whole world knows that with the return of the Islamic Emirate, security has been established across Afghanistan and everyone can conduct business freely. So far, no foreigner has been killed in Afghanistan, nor has any country faced threats from Afghanistan.”
Political observers say countries in the region and around the world remain concerned because of claims made by some neighboring countries regarding Afghanistan’s security situation during international meetings.
Political analyst Akhtar Mohammad Rasikh said:
“Our neighboring countries have always played this double game at the international level, causing concern both globally and regionally.”
This comes as Sadyr Japarov stated yesterday during a United Nations meeting that if his country gains a non-permanent seat on the Security Council, it will pay special attention to Afghanistan.
He linked Central Asia’s security to lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan and said that they support Afghanistan’s gradual integration into the international community.
