Afghanistan and Pakistan Hold Peace Talks Mediated by China

Sources have confirmed to Shamshad News that senior officials from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and China are set to meet on Wednesday in Urumqi, China.

A source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Shamshad that a delegation departed for China on Wednesday for this purpose.

Sources confirmed that the delegation includes representatives from various institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, though the Islamic Emirate has not yet officially disclosed details about the delegation’s composition.

According to a government source:
“The delegation of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan includes representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—Mohibullah Wasiq and Abdulhai Qanit—as well as representatives from the Ministry of Interior, Arefullah; the Ministry of Defense, Ruhullah Omar; and the General Directorate of Intelligence, Yahya Takal.”

Sources close to the delegation said that discussions will not be limited to security issues, but will also cover refugees, economic relations, trade exchanges, and transit.

According to them, focusing solely on security and ceasefire issues will not resolve the broader problems between the two sides.

The source also stated that direct talks with the Pakistani delegation and trilateral discussions involving China are part of the plan.

Pakistani media have also confirmed the upcoming meeting, quoting a senior official from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to Pakistani reports:
“Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who traveled to China on Tuesday, was requested by the Chinese government to participate in this meeting.”

Observers say that Pakistan is trying from multiple angles to resolve its ongoing tensions and disputes with Afghanistan.

They believe Pakistan aims to shift its focus toward Iran instead of Afghanistan.

International affairs analyst Waheed Faqiri said:
“Pakistan is trying to devote its full energy to the Iran issue, as it is more important. For now, they want to free themselves from the Afghanistan situation, as the government has the capacity to redirect public attention toward Iran.”

Former diplomat Aziz Maarej said:
“China is a major power in the region and maintains good relations with both Afghanistan and Pakistan. Therefore, it can have significant influence on these issues.”

Previously, meetings between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and Pakistan were held in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, but they ended without any concrete results, and tensions between the two sides continued.

Meanwhile, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also confirmed that Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has arrived in China and met with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing.
