The World Health Organization said that 17.6 million Afghans will need health assistance in 2023.

WHO has also thanked all its partners, who help them in supporting the health sector in Afghanistan.

WHO said: “It is estimated that 17.6 million Afghans will need health assistance in 2023. We are grateful to all our partners who support the health sector in Afghanistan and reduce its problems.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Health said that it has built new health centers in most regions of the country and appointed 6,000 new health workers.

The spokesman of the MoPH, Sharafat Zaman, uttered that as a result of the recent measures, the death rate of mother and child has decreased.

Zaman added: “We have recently held leadership meetings with the World Health Organization and UNICEF and they have assured us that they will continue to cooperate with us in this regard. There were a lot of problems, of course the death rate of mother and child was very high. Fortunately, now new health centers have been built in many areas, and 6000 new health personnel have been hired. This is the reason that the death rate of mother and child has decreased in the country.”

Zaman further said 600 new health centers will be built in remote areas of the country this year, so that health services reach everyone equally.

He added: “With the arrival of the IE, we have built nearly 200 health centers in the past year and a half. In addition, our mobile health teams have also been from time to time to areas where there were no fixed health centers and provided services there. Our plan is to build nearly 600 new health centers this year, God willing. With this, we will be able to cover the isolated areas and provide health services to the people.”

The World Health Organization estimated that 17.6 Afghans need health services in the country at a time when the related entities of the United Nations in Afghanistan have gone on a 26-day strike in response to the recent decision of the IE.
