Although foreigners and international organizations have not stopped their assistance and billions of dollars have been given in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, poverty has not decreased in contrast the phenomena increases day by day.

Recently, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) published its monthly report of May, saying that the number of Afghans in need has increased from 28.3 million to 28.8 million, most of whom are children.

The report reads: “The number of needy people in Afghanistan has increased from 28.3 million to 28.8 million, of which only 15.2 million are children. On the top of that, 875,000 children under five years of age need treatment for malnutrition and 17.6 million people need medical assistance.”

It was stated in the report that due to the increase in heat, the number of different diseases has also increased and they cannot fight and prevent the risks of it, unless immediate funds received.

The report reads: “Since the weather is getting warmer day by day, the cases of watery diarrhea has also increased, which affected many children. Urgent assistance is needed in order to prevent the increase of risks in health, water and sanitation sectors.”

UNICEF further uttered that in order to continue its activities, it needs more than one and a half billion dollars in aid in 2023, but so far it has received only 6.11 percent of that.

The report reads: “In order for UNICEF to continue its assistance, it needs one billion and 653 million dollars in 2023, and only 6.11 percent of the funds have been received so far.”

UNICEF has also declared that recently, Japan’s government has donated 10 million dollars to Afghanistan, which will be used to provide education to about 71000 Afghans.

UNICEF said that currently 60 percent of primary school female students and 46 percent of male students are deprived of education.

Meanwhile, it is believed that humanitarian assistance cannot solve permanent problems and it is needed to commence practical measures on big economic projects to provide job opportunities to a large number of people.
