The release of an American citizen named Dennis Quill from detention by the Islamic Emirate has been widely welcomed both domestically and internationally.

Following the release, the U.S. Secretary of State and former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, warmly welcomed the move by the Islamic Emirate, while emphasizing that other American detainees still held in Afghanistan should also be freed.

A statement from the U.S. Department of State read in part: “We welcome the release of our detained citizen. We also thank the State of Qatar for its assistance in securing his release. We continue to call for the release of our two other detained citizens.”

The U.S. Secretary of State described the release of the American citizen as a positive step in relations between the two countries and praised the role of mediating countries.

Marco Rubio said: “The release of Dennis Quill is a positive step in relations. We thank Qatar and the United Arab Emirates for their mediation and cooperation in this matter.”

Experts believe that this action by the Islamic Emirate will help reduce the existing gap between Kabul and Washington and further pave the way for expanding relations.

According to them, building trust is essential for improving ties between the two sides.

Political analyst Shahzada Massoud said: “In my view, this was a very positive and timely step. I believe it will further strengthen the atmosphere of trust-building. I hope the United States will reciprocate by releasing an Afghan named Mohammad Rahim from Guantanamo prison.”

Another analyst, Sarwar Niazi, said: “The release of American detainees by the Islamic Emirate indicates a positive interaction between the U.S. and the Taliban. I believe more such exchanges will take place in the future, reducing the current gap between the United States and Afghanistan.”

Some time ago, the former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan, in an interview with Shamshad, had emphasized the release of prisoners. According to him, the United States has no other major issues with Afghanistan aside from this matter.

Zalmay Khalilzad stated: “I have traveled to Kabul several times, and as you are aware, there are some issues, including the detention of three American citizens in Kabul. This issue should be resolved as soon as possible, and I hope it will be addressed soon.”

In his recent remarks, Khalilzad again praised the move, adding that the family of Dennis Quill is happy with the Islamic Emirate’s action. He expressed hope that such steps will create momentum for resolving the remaining issues soon.
