Muttaqi: IE Has Closer Ties with the Region, Neighbors than the Previous Afg Gov

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi recently said that the devastated relations of the previous Afghan government with neighboring and regional countries have been restored.

Amir Khan Muttaqi called the previous political system of Afghanistan under the influence of the West and said this was the reason why Afghanistan’s relations with some countries were cut.

Muttaqi added that in addition to China, Russia, Iran and Pakistan, IE has sent new diplomats to the embassies of Afghanistan in 13 regional and neighboring countries and there has been no postponement in the affairs.

Muttaqi added: “The previous Afghan regime was under the influence of the West, and its relations with the region and neighboring countries were devastated, but IE restored them. IE has sent new diplomats to Iran, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, China, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Malaysia, and we are in contact with the embassies of Afghanistan in many other countries that they obey the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

Meanwhile, some political experts believed that administrative interaction with countries cannot be a positive relationship, nor can it meet the needs.

According to them, recognition is the only way that gives validity to the government of a country and its ambassador is officially accepted.

“Why do they (IE) have administrative interaction with countries instead of official interaction? This is not a positive or necessary relationship. The recognition of IE is positive and effective relations, the countries should accept IE’s presence, and approved its ambassador. The improvement of the relations is good, but according to international principles, this is not what Afghans are waiting for. The IE should change its policies for the official relations.” Political commentator Hikmatullah Hikmat commentated

On the other hand, some others deemed that, considering the current conditions, Afghanistan needs more than ever to establish official relations with the world and the region based on mutual respect.

They uttered that informal relations, no matter how extensive, cannot solve problems.

“Looking at the circumstances, it is now more important than ever that Afghanistan’s relations with the region, neighbors and major countries of the world should be established based on mutual respect or national interests. It is needed.” Said Political expert Shahzada Masoud

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that along with the UNAMA, the European Union, and many major countries of the region have embassies in Kabul and their diplomats are carrying out their affairs normally.
