The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) once again called the situation in Afghanistan the largest humanitarian crisis on the earth and asked the donors to bolster them.
OCHA said, despite Afghanistan encounter the largest and the most severe humanitarian crisis in the world, we have received less than five percent of the funds requested for 2023.
OCHA added: “28.3 million Afghans need humanitarian aid. 23% of which are women, 54% are children and 8.3% are disabled. In 2023, it is planned to provide assistance to 23.7 million people that require 4.6 billion dollars.”
According to OCHA, the donors have provided only 18 million and 400 thousand US dollars in the four months of this year out of the requested 4.6 billion dollars.
OCHA said that food security and agriculture, water and sanitation, health, nutrition and education are the sectors that spend the most money in Afghanistan.
OCHA has also marked in detail the sectors in which it plans to provide assistance to the needy Afghans in 2023.
OCHA added: “Distribution of funds for providing aid to the needy people in some key sectors: 2.6 billion dollars to over 21 million people in food security and agriculture, nearly 450 million dollars to 7.6 million people in health, over 384 million dollars to 7.2 million people in nutrition, about 215 million dollars to 8.7 million people in education.”
In addition to the above mentioned sectors, protection, aviation and coordination are other sectors in which OCHA has published the details of the expenses in 2023.
OCHA said that 218 operational partners are cooperating with it in the process of providing aid to the needy people in Afghanistan.
