Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, during a meeting with the acting head of United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan in Afghanistan, discussed the upcoming United Nations Security Council meeting on Afghanistan and other related issues.
Amir Khan Muttaqi described the presence of Islamic Emirate representatives in the United Nations and other international organizations as important for strengthening interaction between the two sides. He added that Afghanistan’s representation in those organizations is both the responsibility of the government and the right of the Afghan people.
Deputy spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zia Ahmad Takal, said regarding the meeting: “The upcoming United Nations Security Council meeting on Afghanistan and other related issues were discussed during this meeting. The Foreign Minister stated that the presence of Afghanistan’s representatives in the United Nations and other organizations would help strengthen and expand engagement between both sides. He also added that Afghanistan’s representation is the responsibility of the Afghan government and the right of the Afghan people.”
Meanwhile, the acting head of UNAMA in Kabul emphasized the expansion of international engagement with Afghanistan and the continuation of cooperation in various sectors.
Zia Ahmad Takal added: “Ms. Georgette Gagnon also stressed greater international engagement with Afghanistan and continued cooperation in different fields. At the end of the meeting, both sides emphasized coordination between joint working committees to expand humanitarian cooperation and further strengthen mutual engagement.”
Political analysts say UNAMA should understand Afghanistan’s situation realistically and help improve relations between Afghanistan and the international community. According to them, the Islamic Emirate should also accept the legitimate demands of the international community in order to make engagement with the world easier.
Political analyst Akhtar Mohammad Rasikh said: “During its activities, UNAMA has not taken steps that could help resolve Afghanistan’s problems.”
The meeting between Muttaqi and Gagnon comes as the United Nations has, for more than four and a half years, considered restrictions on women’s education and employment, the absence of an inclusive government, concerns over human rights, and international concerns about reliable security as the main obstacles to engagement between the Islamic Emirate and the world.
The Islamic Emirate has repeatedly described these issues over the past four and a half years as Afghanistan’s internal matters.
