Ministry of Transport & Aviation: 12,000 Flights Operated from the Country’s Airports Last Year

Officials from the Ministry of Transport and Aviation say that the past solar year 1404 was marked by significant achievements in the provision of air and land transport services.

According to them, more than 12,000 domestic and international flights were carried out from 27 airports, transporting 1.6 million passengers.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Hikmatullah Asifi, said that around 170 different projects were also implemented last year to further expand services.

Asifi added:
“The Ministry of Transport and Aviation has undertaken around 170 projects so far. Some are currently under implementation, while others have already been completed and put into operation. In addition, our technical teams are active in the provinces to identify land for urban terminals.”

The spokesperson also stated that financial, procurement, and administrative sections across all air and land terminals have been digitized. Moreover, GPS devices have been installed in 20,222 additional transport vehicles.

He further said:
“In addition to two domestic companies, 10 international airlines are providing air transport services to our citizens. Cargo air corridors for trade, exports, and imports with other countries are among the key areas the ministry has focused on. Significant attention has also been given to electronic systems. In the road transport sector, many processes—including vehicle scheduling and permits—have been digitized.”

Citizens and economic analysts, while calling for improved service quality, have welcomed the projects implemented by the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, noting their usefulness in the transportation of passengers and goods.

Economic analyst Abdul Nasir Rashtia said:
“Afghanistan is a landlocked country with no access to international waters. Our land transport also faces serious challenges. The more we utilize air transport, the more positive impact it has on the country’s economy, as goods can reach their destinations in a shorter time and at lower cost through air corridors.”

According to the ministry, 86,000 vehicles also underwent technical inspections last year. In addition, 185 transport companies were established to expand services—125 for cargo and 70 for passenger transport.

Currently, around 900 transport companies are operating across the country, providing services in both passenger and cargo transportation.
