A media outlet known as Al-Marsad, citing its sources, reports that unknown gunmen carried out an overnight attack on an ISIS–Khorasan (ISIS-K) hideout on Tuesday (February 3) in the Bara area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the report, the attack took place in the Shinkai area of Qambar Khel, killing 11 ISIS-K members and wounding three others. Most of those killed were reportedly foreign nationals who had relocated to the area after drone strikes targeted them in the Jabar Mela area in November last year.
Sources told Al-Marsad that following the dismantling of a major ISIS center in Mastung, Balochistan, the group has increased its focus on settling in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in an attempt to reorganize its activities.
Meanwhile, the UN Security Council is expected to hold a session on global threats posed by ISIS and the insecurity caused by the group. Analysts have urged the UN to focus more closely on documented evidence of ISIS presence in areas across the Durand Line.
Previously, the Islamic Emirate stated that after being defeated in Afghanistan, ISIS established hideouts in Balochistan and Pakistan-controlled Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where key members are still believed to be operating with organized support.
