Nahr-e-Saraj district of the Southern Province of Helmand, which was recently, added in the formation of districts after the arrival of the IE, now its residents are demanding buildings for schools.
Residents of Nahr-e-Saraj district say that the district was related to Greshk district in the past years, but no attention has been paid to it and many schools need construction and renovation.
“Our request to the leadership of the IE is to build a suitable school for us. We don’t have any other wish; just build a school in the district so that our children can get an education.” A resident of Nahr-e-Saraj district said
Another resident of Nahr-e-Saraj district uttered: “Here is a school, but it is destroyed. We request the IE to build a school for us.”
Mawlawi Muhammad Ewadh Ansari, the head of Helmand province’s Education Department, admitted the problem and added that during the past wars many schools were destroyed or badly damaged in some other districts besides Nahr-e-Saraj in Helmand and need to be restored now.
According to Ansari, 17 schools have been repaired in Helmand in the last 6 months, the practical measures of constructing of 57 other schools are in progress and it is planned to repair 102 more schools in the next year.
Ansari added: “You have information that all the schools were bombed during the war, some were completely destroyed and some others need to be repaired in Helmand. We have repaired 17 schools in these six months, 57 schools are under construction and we plan to repair 102 schools in the next year.”
The problem of school buildings exists in the other provinces of Kandahar, Zabul and Uruzgan in the southern zone, where thousands of students study under the sky or in half-collapsed buildings.
