Richard Bennett, the United Nations Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in Afghanistan, will present his report to the 53rd session of the United Nations Human Rights, in which he discussed the situation of Afghan women and girls.
Together with his working team, he called Afghan women deprived of their rights and that they are systematically removed from the scene of public life.
Bennett added: “One of the most obvious examples of systematic discrimination against women and girls in Afghanistan is the continuous issuance of decrees, orders, declarations and instructions that restrict their rights including movement, clothing, behavior, freedom, education, work and access to health and justice.”
Although, some topics in the report were based on surveys, the IE called the report propaganda and far from truth.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the IE, Zabihullah Mujahid, said that some parts of the report have been grossly misinterpreted and an attempt has been made to misrepresent the image of Afghanistan.
Mujahid added: “Richard Bennett’s report, some parts of which have been disclosed, so far the parts that have been divulged are all propaganda. Either its sources of information were not strong or they wanted that some topics are misinterpreted.
Women’s rights to work and girls’ right to get an education are the issues that are considered obstacles to the integration of the world and the Interim Government.
On the other hand, political analysts believed that the IE should change some of its decisions regarding women and girls in order to end the excuses that have hindered interaction and communication.
“If they (the IE) really want to interact with the international community and establish ties with the international community, then they should solve these problems and bring reforms so that these pretenses to the international community will end. Unfortunately, this dumb atmosphere has not been clarified for the ordinary Afghans.” Political commentator Aziz Ma’araj commentated
The United Nations Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan’s human rights has called on the involved countries and the United Nations not to remain silent for women’s rights in Afghanistan in a part of his report.
In reaction to the Bennett’s report the IE said that it is committed to providing all rights in the light of Islamic Sharia and the definition of rights should be based on society and values.
