Pakistan’s Anti-Terrorism Court granted bail to former Prime Minister Imran Khan until June 08, 2023, in 8 cases in which he is accused of cooperation with terrorism and financial corruption.
Before going to the court, Imran Khan expressed his fear in a Twitter Space created by his party, Tehreek-e-Insaf, that he might be captured while appearing in the court in Islamabad.
Therefore, he asked his supporters to remain peaceful and to protest peacefully in case of he arrested.
Khan added: “Peaceful demonstrations are the basic right of the people and no one can prevent them even in front of the general command of the army. I want people to be peaceful. If there is violence, then the government gets the opportunity to oppress the people.”
After his statements, the former US Special Representative for the Afghanistan peace process, Zalmay Khalilzad, strongly condemned the Chief of Staff of the Pakistan Army.
Khalilzad said Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir is still crossing democratic red lines by prosecuting civilians in military courts due to the damage caused during recent demonstrations.
Khalilzad asked the legal scholars of Pakistan to prove themselves by standing against the similar measures of Asim Munir.
He added: “If the Chief of Staff of the Pakistan Army takes illegal step, it will be another reason that Asim Munir is not an apt person of leading the army and playing a sensitive role in the fate of an important country. According to my information, the current parliament is not legitimate due to the resignation of Tehreek-e-Insaf Party members. I invite the legal scholars of Pakistan to prove themselves.”
Meanwhile, a number of political analysts believed that the comparison between the Pakistani army and Imran Khan is at a high level and added that the political crisis of Pakistan has not yet been controlled.
However, some others call it an individual dispute between Imran Khan and Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir and added that the latest confrontation between the two of them can be dangerous and deepen the political disaster in Pakistan.
The former Pakistan Prime Minister has claimed that the current political disaster is a joint conspiracy of the army and the civilian government led by Shahbaz Sharif.
Along with the political disaster, the economic disaster in Pakistan has also intensified.
