An international human rights organization, in its latest report on Afghanistan, stated that Pakistan has been targeting civilians in the country and that its past attacks have also been directed against Afghan civilians.
The report specifically refers to incidents in Paktika, Khost, and Kunar provinces, noting that more than 15 Afghan civilians were injured in these attacks, including women and children.
The organization has called on Pakistan to immediately stop attacks on civilians in Afghanistan.
The report states:
“The Pakistani military has targeted civilian homes in Paktika, Khost, and Kunar, resulting in 17 people being injured. In these attacks, civilians—including women and children—were directly targeted and affected. Pakistan must immediately cease attacks on civilians in Afghanistan and respect international law.”
The report further notes that Pakistan’s attacks have forced many people to flee their homes, increasing the risk of a new humanitarian crisis in the region.
Regarding these alleged war crimes and violations of international law, it is stated that the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation should not ignore these incidents and should refer the perpetrators to the International Criminal Court.
Former senator Hashim Alkozai said:
“We call on the international community and human rights organizations—why is the voice of Afghans not reaching you? Why are Pakistani military forces not being questioned about why they are killing Afghans? They must be referred to court and held accountable for the killing of Afghan people.”
Some others say they no longer trust international claims of defending human rights. According to them, in Afghanistan—similar to Palestine and Gaza—Pakistan is committing clear war crimes by targeting civilians and their homes.
Analysts emphasize that the international community must act to prevent Pakistan’s actions in Afghanistan in order to demonstrate its commitment to protecting human rights.
Political analyst Kamal Nasr Asoli said:
“Claims of human rights in the world are false, and the organizations established for this purpose are currently silent. Pakistan’s proxy forces are bombing our civilians and infrastructure, yet no voice is raised.”
Since the beginning of its operations in Afghanistan, Pakistan has consistently targeted civilian sites. One of the deadliest incidents was the attack on a drug rehabilitation center (Omid Hospital) in Kabul, where, according to official figures, 400 people were killed and nearly 300 others injured.
Most recently, mortar shells were fired at residential homes and a school in Kunar province, resulting in 17 civilians injured and one person killed.
