Officials say that the bodies of some victims are still being kept at the forensic department and have not yet been identified, and their families have not been found.
Authorities at the forensic department say these bodies belong to individuals who were killed in an airstrike carried out by the Pakistani military regime on a drug rehabilitation center.
They are asking people to help identify the victims so their bodies can be handed over to their families.
The head of forensic services said: “Just moments ago, we handed over one body to the family, but 27 bodies are still with us that have not been identified. We ask their families to come and help us with identification so that the bodies of their loved ones can be returned.”
Nizamuddin, who found his younger brother’s body after several days of effort, said that his brother had been taken to the rehabilitation center months ago in the hope that he would recover from addiction and return to live with his family.
He said that just days before the attack, he had visited the center to check on his injured brother and had promised to bring him home for Eid. However, instead of returning home, his brother was buried.
The brother of the victim, Nizamuddin, said: “When the bombing happened, we also received a phone call informing us. We came here and searched until today, and today I found him at the forensic department. My brother had improved a lot, and it was planned that I would take him home for Eid, but…”
Some families consider Nizamuddin fortunate because he was able to find his brother’s body, while many other families are still searching for their loved ones.
Telawat Khan has been searching for his brother for the past six days, but it is still unclear whether his brother is alive or has been killed.
He said that during the days of Eid, instead of celebrating, he is searching for his missing brother but has not yet been successful in finding him, alive or dead.
A resident of Nangarhar, Telawat Khan said: “Since the day after the attack, I have been searching for my brother, but I have not found him yet. The whole family is waiting for him. We took him there so he could recover and have a better future. Our entire family is spending nights in sorrow.”
On the 27th of Ramadan, Pakistani military jets bombed the drug rehabilitation center (Omid Hospital) in the HotKhel area of Kabul, resulting in 400 Martyred and nearly 300 injuries.
