The Iranian Consulate in Herat has opened a three-day exhibition showcasing women’s handicrafts and artworks, aiming to support women and promote their products in the market.
The exhibition features handmade crafts, paintings, carvings, and miniature art.
Local officials say the exhibition, organized by the Iranian Consulate in Herat, ensures that Afghan women’s handicrafts and artistic works reach international markets.
Deputy of the Iranian Consulate in Herat, Syed Ali Kamyab, said:
“Many beautiful and impressive works are presented in this exhibition, which can not only reach other provinces of Afghanistan but also neighboring countries.”
The exhibition coordinator, Sosan Kazemi, added:
“This is our fourth exhibition, where Afghan women’s handicrafts are displayed for three days. The goal is to showcase the artistry of women-made products, introduce them to the world, and preserve them alive.”
Participating women called such exhibitions crucial for marketing their crafts and artworks. They emphasized that, with support, they can revive Herat’s rich cultural heritage through art.
Ngita Drani, head of Khatin Zar Gallery, said:
“The more opportunities there are for women, the more they can progress and share their art. Such exhibitions are very beneficial for women because they allow us to revive cultural heritage that has been forgotten.”
Artist Qarish Malekzadeh said:
“We grow through such exhibitions, attract buyers, promote our work, and generate income.”
Cultural experts stress the importance of increasing support for artists through exhibitions, stating that sustained backing can help preserve cultural values and contribute to economic growth.
Cultural expert Wali Shah added:
“Appreciating and encouraging artists can have a significant impact on the growth of art. When artists are valued and their works purchased, they are motivated and experience the benefits of their art.”
This comes as the handicraft and art sector in Herat is growing, with many women striving for economic self-reliance through their artistic skills.
