An Afghan businessman living in Russia has donated 20 tons of food aid to victims of recent natural disasters in Afghanistan and officially delivered it to the National Disaster Preparedness Authority.
Officials from the authority said that the aid, which includes three types of food supplies, will be distributed as soon as possible to families in need. They emphasized that, given the urgent need for humanitarian assistance, Afghan people require more aid now than ever before and called on international donors to increase support.
Nooruddin Torabi, head of the National Disaster Preparedness Authority, said:
“This is the tenth time that the Moscow-based Afghan businessman, Haji Nadershah, has assisted Afghanistan’s poorest people through our authority. Today he has provided 20 tons of food, which will be distributed to 500 people. This businessman always helps without being asked, and we sincerely appreciate his support.”
Torabi also noted that recent rainfall and earthquakes have caused both human and financial losses, leaving many affected individuals in urgent need of aid.
While sharing information about casualties and damages caused by recent floods in Kabul, Torabi said that in the past 24 hours, floods across various provinces caused 26 casualties, including 13 deaths and 13 injuries.
He added: “Although initial estimates predicted more losses, thankfully, fatalities are limited to 13 with 13 others injured.”
According to the National Disaster Preparedness Authority, recent rainfall and floods have resulted in a total of 72 deaths and dozens more injured.
Officials also reported that in addition to human losses, hundreds of hectares of farmland, hundreds of homes, and public infrastructure have been partially or completely destroyed.
