Kabul Municipality has announced that, as part of its ongoing public infrastructure projects, construction of both an overpass and an underpass at Barki intersection is nearing completion.

Officials from the municipality said that more than 85% of the underpass construction has been completed.

According to officials, the total cost of constructing the two bridges at Barki intersection is estimated at around 1.5 billion Afghanis. The underpass is approximately 470 meters long and is close to completion.

A representative of Kabul Municipality also stated that construction of the overpass is progressing rapidly. The overpass is about 273 meters long and is being built at a cost of nearly 500 million Afghanis.

Municipality spokesperson Nematullah Barakzai said:
“This project has two main components—one above ground and one underground. The underground section is 470 meters long, and 85% of the work has been completed so far and will be finished soon. The above-ground section is approximately 700 meters long and is supported by 440 pillars, and construction is ongoing. The total cost of the Barki bridge is 1.5 billion Afghanis, and the project will be completed within two years. We ask all citizens to use alternative routes until the project is completed.”

Meanwhile, drivers have welcomed the implementation of such projects, saying they help reduce congestion, traffic accidents, and time wasted in busy areas.

Driver Momin said:
“If these bridges are completed, traffic congestion in the city will decrease.”

Another driver said:
“This will reduce congestion in the city and make it easier for people to travel. I urge the government to speed up the construction of such bridges.”

In addition to drivers, Kabul residents have also welcomed such projects, saying that the construction of overpasses will reduce congestion and allow them to carry out their daily activities on time.

Kabul resident Sadiqullah said:
“Bridges are beneficial, and roads will improve with them. Handcarts have caused major problems here and blocked the roads.”

Another resident, Abdul Qasim, said:
“These bridges will greatly help Kabul residents by reducing congestion and enabling people to reach their work more quickly.”

Previously, Kabul Municipality had announced plans to implement infrastructure projects across the city worth more than 8 billion Afghanis.

According to the municipality, these projects include the construction of main and secondary roads, bridges, sidewalks, recreational parks, and commercial centers for street vendors.
