Patel Calls the US Assistance to Afghans Permanent

Although the US has imposed a large scale of political and economic bans on the IE, the spokesman of the US State Department, Vedant Patel, said in a press conference that the US is still the major assisting country to Afghans, and the US has strong commitment to support them.

Patel uttered that they are worried about the bans imposed on Afghan women and girls and added that Afghanistan cannot develop without women.

Patel added: “Our commitment to the people of Afghanistan is not only strong, but also sustainable. America is still the only major country that has provided the most humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan. We have discussed the violation of human rights by the Taliban in Afghanistan, especially the violation of women’s rights. We insist, when half of the Afghan population is left behind, how will they progress? So we will continue our assistance to Afghans.”

Patel said that the US provides humanitarian assistance to the needy Afghans with the help of the relevant UN entities and organizations.

He added: “We are talking to partner institutions and organizations to ensure that our humanitarian assistance reaches the needy Afghans. We are working with experts in the region and with organizations that have experience in this regard to ensure that our assistance reaches the needy people.”

Vedant Patel did not disclose details about the telephone conversation between the foreign ministers of the United States and Qatar after Qatar’s FM’s trip to Afghanistan, but added that the US interaction and ties with Qatar are very essential in Afghanistan issue.

Patel added: “The US is grateful for Qatar’s cooperation in Afghanistan in many areas. They don not only provide our consular services in Afghanistan, but also protect the security of our citizens. The US State Department leadership is busy in frequent talks with Qatari officials to find solutions to Afghanistan’s problems. Qatar is an important member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and its involvement in the Afghanistan issue is a useful step.”

The United States makes the remarks at a time when the IE has said that imposing pressure on Afghans is not useful and has asked all countries, including the United States, to interact with the Interim Government of Afghanistan.
