Afghanistan will be discussed in a meeting under the leadership of the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, in Doha, the capital of Qatar, today Monday May 01, 2023, in which the representatives of about 22 countries will participate.
United Nations spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said that the representatives of the IE have not been invited to the meeting.
A number of political analysts believed that if the Afghan government is not invited, then the meeting will not have any effect on the situation in Afghanistan and will not solve the existing problems.
They suggested that for international security the best way is to talk face-to-face with the IE, otherwise, all kinds of meetings and conferences will not give desired consequences.
“If the representative of the IEA is not invited to the meeting, then it will not solve the problem of Afghanistan. The IE is a reality in Afghanistan and it should be accepted. If the world wants to talk about international security in the region, then the best way is to talk to the IE face-to-face, otherwise the decisions of the meeting will not be acceptable to Afghan nation.”
Some analysts deemed that if the representative of IE had been invited, then they would have responded closely to international criticism and questions regarding the government, due which the affairs would have taken a positive direction.
Meanwhile, some others believed that the reason for not inviting Afghanistan to the Qatar meeting will be some decisions of the United Nations, which may not be in the interest of Afghanistan.
“It would have been good if someone from the Taliban had been invited there and represented Afghanistan and given an explanation about Afghanistan. If the participants criticized Afghan government, they would have responded to them, so many problems would be solved and Afghanistan would have been freed from the problems.” Said Sayed Akbar Agha, head of the Khlason Lara Council
Analysts requested the United Nations and the participants of the meeting, that there is still time, to invite the IE and to reconsider the recognition of the Afghan government.
“Afghans were waiting for an official representative of the Afghan government to be present at this meeting, because if there is no representative of the government, how Afghanistan can be considered responsible as a party and the presence of the government representative could ease the interaction between the world and Afghanistan. We requested the UN not only to give time to the representative of Afghanistan in this meeting, but also to consider the recognition of Afghanistan in close interaction with Afghanistan.” Najibullah Jame, a political commentator commentated
Meanwhile, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has asked Kabul to reverse its decisions regarding Afghan women’s work and education.
Guterres stressed that the restrictions impose on Afghan women by IE should be removed in order to humanitarian assistance be delivered.
He added: “The withdrawal of all measures and decisions that curb the rights of women to work is necessary for millions of people in Afghanistan who need humanitarian assistance. Afghans need urgent aid and women are necessary in this area to ensure delivery.”
The world threatened to stop their assistance to Afghanistan after UNAMA and other UN entities’ female staff was banned from working in Afghanistan.
Now there are concerns, if the situation continues the same, the damage will only reach the Afghan people and the economic situation will worsen and the humanitarian crisis will expand, which will not be easy to prevent.
