Officials of the Ministry of Refugees and Returnees Affairs said in a meeting held on the occasion of World Refugee Day that 2 million Afghans have returned to the country in the past two years and almost 2 million have been repatriated.
Khalil Rahman Haqqani, Acting Minister of Refugees and Returnees Affairs, said: “The rapid influx of refugees, at least two million Afghan refugees have returned to Afghanistan in the past two years and the MoRRA has sent internally displaced people to their homes.”
The IE says that it has provided facilities to returnees along with opportunities at home and is trying to prevent migration from the country.
On the other hand, in the message of the Prime Minister, the countries that have given place to Afghan refugees for decades were thanked.
Officials asked the neighboring countries to cooperate in providing access to human rights for Afghan refugees in their countries.
“The IE has started efforts to facilitate the arrival of Afghan refugees from foreign countries and a large number of them have returned.” said a representative of the PM
Khalil Rahman Haqqani, Acting Minister of Refugees and Returnees Affairs, uttered that there is corruption in the distribution of aid from foreign organizations and institutions, and these organizations should cooperate with them to deliver their assistance to the needy people.
World Refugee Day is being celebrated in Afghanistan at a time when more than 7 million Afghans are refugees in foreign countries; most of them are in Iran and Pakistan.
Officials asked aid organizations and countries not to politicize their assistance to Afghanistan, especially refugees, and give rights to Afghan refugees based on international laws.
